5 Questions with Katie
1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am originally from the Richville area, having graduated from Perham High School in 2005 before moving to south central Iowa where I lived for 10 years. My husband Chance and I have two wonderful boys who enjoy showing horses, riding four wheelers & snowmobiles and keeping their parents on their toes. I graduated with a BS in Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement and am working on my Master’s degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science. I will soon be a CPT (certified personal trainer), PES (performance enhancement specialist) as well as FNS (fitness nutrition specialist certified through the NASM). I am also a full time photographer, specializing in equine & pet photography and I loving spending the summers trail riding and showing our horses.
2. What kind of fitness training will you offer?
I will be offering one-on-one personal training, partner’s training (similar to one-on-one but with a partner) and beginners boot camp. I will also be looking at adding in a class on proper stretching and how to effectively use your foam roller as well as nutrition classes and progressive boot camps.
3. Why will Members enjoy training with you?
As a trainer & coach, I don’t believe that “one size fits all”. Everyone learns in different ways, at different times and with different methods – what works for one person may not work for the next. I strive to give my all to each client and ensure that you are getting the most out of every workout. With my previous military training, I am focused and driven. I also am not one to sugar coat anything – your safety is my number one priority. If I notice someone performing an exercise incorrectly, I will most definitely step in and help correct them. I love to bring humor to workouts and keep the atmosphere upbeat and motivational.
4. What is one thing most people don't know about you?
Most people don’t know that I qualified for the 2018 World Obstacle Course Race championship, however I was unable to attend due to it being in England. I am hoping to attend the World Championship when it either comes to America or Canada again. Both my husband and I qualified and ran in the North American OCR Championships where I placed 8th out of 142 women overall.
5. How many calories do I burn shoveling snow?!
This winter sure has been a doozy when it comes to snow, which may have you thinking “just how many calories AM I burning while moving all this snow?” That can vary from person to person, however at baseline, the average American will burn 223 calories per 30 minutes of shoveling snow. Keep in mind, the colder it is outside, the more calories you will burn just trying to stay warm, the faster you shovel -the more calories burned as well as your intensity ie: how many breaks you are taking.

After discussing both long-term and short-term goals, a program can be assigned to you to help keep you on track and motivated both inside & outside of the gym.
If you are brand new to working out or recovering from an injury or medical condition, personal training sessions are a great place to start.
